ABOUT THE CINEMA
The Jean Cocteau Cinema is, proudly, one of the few remaining small indie cinemas in the Santa Fe area.
Located in the Railyard District in Santa Fe, New Mexico, the historic Jean Cocteau Cinema is, proudly, one of the few remaining single screen indie cinemas in the country and owned by author and Santa Fe local, George R.R. Martin. We are hosts to artists, singers, comedians, magicians, drag kings and queens, and of course, authors! We aim to create a unique experience by pairing films with curated themed cocktails at our full bar, to having amish popcorn (with real butter and 10+ toppings) and other movie theater concessions. Whether you’re looking for a unique event in Santa Fe, or want to rent the cinema for your very own party—the Jean Cocteau Cinema has it all!
We are NOW OPEN 5pm-midnight weekdays and 4pm-midnight weekends (closed Tuesday unless stated). Normal hours subject to changes due to holidays, scheduled programs outside business hours or private rentals so please SEE SHOWTIMES BELOW OR ALL LIVE TICKETS HERE for more details on hours of operation.
The historic Jean Cocteau Cinema is not just an eclectic indie theater and bar, it is a unique event space that is truly transforming the entertainment scene in the Railyard District of Santa Fe, showcasing film, comedy, live music, and drag shows. Jean Cocteau Cinema is part of Highgarden Entertainment, along with Beastly Books and Milk of the Poppy!
The Jean Cocteau Cinema began its life back In 1976 by a group of film-loving hippies in the space we currently occupy, and christened it the “Collective Fantasy.” Operating as an art house cinema with eclectic taste. It wasn’t until 1983 that the theater changed its name to the Jean Cocteau Cinema after the famous french filmmaker, artist and poet. After closing in 2006, it was reopened in 2013 by acclaimed fantasy and sci-fi author George RR Martin, the Jean Cocteau Cinema was once again a vibrant, eclectic moviehouse.
Today it is a mainstay of the Santa Fe community in the Railyard District and hosts artists, singers, comedians, magicians, drag kings and queens, and authors. We aim to create a unique experience by pairing films with curated themed cocktails at our full bar, to having customizable charcuterie amidst the expected movie theater concessions. Whether you’re looking for a unique event in Santa Fe, or want to rent the cinema for your very own party—the Jean Cocteau Cinema has it all!
